Creating a Cozy Home with Lorena Canals

 Rug, c/o | Bed | Duvet Cover/Pillow Case | Map, thrifted | Dresser | Cart | Easel

It's important to me to create a home that is warm and inviting, a cozy place that welcomes creativity. For me, that means creating intentional spaces where my kids can play and be messy, a nook where husband and I can unwind together, and a kitchen that calls for gathering.

Though it small, Liam's room is one of my favorites in our little home. Each toy and gadget has a home and is neatly organized, it's bright and airy and all the texture provides a cozy space that makes me want to build those highly requested tracks on the floor. His room is still a work in progress as we prepare for baby #2 but I've been enjoying the challenge of getting everything just so. More baskets and organizational jars need to be added and labels need to be made to satisfy my OCD heart but I like the direction it's headed.

This Lorena Canals rug is a new addition that I quickly fell in love with. It's 100% cotton, handmade, thick and plush and perfect for crawling and lounging on and the best part is it's WASHABLE. For me, this is genius. Straight up, kids are gross and having the ability to wash the rug is crucial. It fits right into the washer (and dryer) and literally takes no time. A favorite tidbit is that each rug in this collection is named after a child who is provided with a scholarship in India.

Though they specialize in kid's rugs, I have a few other favorites that would be great additions to my house (let's face it, adults need washable rugs too!) like this azteca one, this geometric one, and this striped one.

Bumpdate: 22 Weeks

How far along? 22 weeks

Name: We're working on it. Options are being narrowed down and we think we have a middle name. It's just so hard choosing a name!

Movement: This little guy is active! I've grown to learn his sleeping habits and when he's the most active. Initially I thought he wasn't quite as aggressive with his movement as Liam was but he may be proving me wrong. You can see my tummy start to move now which is always exciting. Those are some of my favorite videos to look at from when I was pregnant the first time around. I'm still waiting for Liam to feel his brother's kicks. The last time I told him his brother was kicking he said that wasn't nice so we're still learning. :)

Belly Button: Almost an outie and quite literally a button. Cute.

Sickness: Thankfully it's completely gone. The first 4 months were a doozy but I woke up one morning and the nausea was completely gone. It was like a Christmas miracle!

Cravings: Gimme all the savory food, which seems normal when carrying a boy. I'm no longer craving Chinese food which Thomas is thankful for. There's nothing specific that I'm really desperate for I just don't desire sweets. Like ever.

Workout: I'm working out regularly again. I've somehow gotten a surge of energy and my body is craving being active again. I was worried I would never get back to it since my first trimester was so terrible. But it seems I'm free and clear from the nausea and from hanging my head in the throne so I'm taking full advantage. My body is singing a hallelujah chorus and I feel somewhat like my old self again. I'll be sharing my workout regime that I've been doing soon!

Nursery: Liam will be sharing a room with the new baby which mostly just means that's where the changing table, etc will be but sleeping in our room. We are moving to a new place shortly after the baby is born so we're not trying to get too crazy with the setup. Also trying not to think to hard about moving with a newborn or I might have a hernia. However, once we move I'll change up the theme of the room. Currently Liam has a cars/maps/transportation theme but I want something a bit more whimsical and youthful. This Lorena Canals rug is on the way and I have my eye on this panda head and this lion head. I'll also be investing in big baskets like these from Serena and Lily to keep clutter at bay. There's currently a lot of natural wood furniture (like this dresser, this toddler bed, and several of these baskets) which will be versatile for whatever we finally land on.

inspo

I am most inspired by an inspiring space. I also realize that is not an earth shattering sentence. But there is some creative energy I need to get out. Maybe it is the itch for my own home  but I feel like I might burst. I would even settle to rearrange our current space but our apartment is so restrictive in its layout that that's not even possible. So instead, here are some things I'd like to make...

Be Present and a simple piece of artwork via
Feather garland via
Or perhaps a version of this via
Paper flower via
Simple, yet unique art wall via
Kind of obsessed with taped frames via

To DIYing I go.

14 weeks

14 weeks already! time is seriously flying and crawling all at the same time. first trimester is over and out and i welcome the second with open arms. i've never had a belly before and it's strange to look down and see a tummy before i see my legs.
i've had a bad cold the last few days--something normally tolerable but without taking medication, i kinda wanna die. regardless, we've added more things to the apartment that make a huge difference. it's been a process but i'm finally starting to love the look of this place. of course there's always more to do--a mantle, coat rack, plants, blablablah, but it's looking pretty great. all done while being sick. rock star.

Dallas, how I miss thee. For a California girl, I certainly do resonate a lot with the South. I loved the big metroplex in the middle of nowhere. One minute you could be at a plush restaurant and the next be line dancing at a bar. I loved the cowboy hats and $1000 boots. I loved that there was no way on earth I could ever possibly eat at half the eateries in town. Maybe even a quarter. The BBQ cannot be competed with. The friendliness undeniable.

And IKEA. I was 10 minutes away from IKEA.
Though I never tire of this scenery,

at IKEA I get this...

Husband and I, along with Katie and Brad, drove 2 hours to IKEA a few days ago. It's tough, but I'll do it. :) I love the creativity of the place. I'd never put a lot of their decor in my home but I do love the layout. It's pretty genius. And I don't know what it is but I get lost in kitchens. In a "I never wanna leave and use everything" sort of way. I love kitchen trinkets. I don't need 42 spatulas but I WANT them. And if it's wooden, even better. Naturally, we came home with three new ones. Because there IS a difference between a pancake spatula and an omelet spatula.
Above all the things I love about IKEA is that it's a place where husband and I both like to go together. Let's get real, I can't get away with going to a lot of home stores with him. But it's just an all around happy time here.

Home Tour: Living Room

We spent the last few days redoing some things around here. Pretty much everything went. (Jen, you don't know it but our other leather chair is currently being stored in your garage. We're taking it up to the cabin. Mom doesn't know that yet either. It will come back once we have a bigger space. :) New couch, new side table, new leather chair, new entertainment center (that hides everything!), new lamp, new island. Like I said, pretty much everything went. Ha. We still have a few things left to do...new area rug, couch pillows (those generic ones just won't do), bar stools, and re-centering of things. I love it all. :)

 Girl is always here.

"I have things to see, Mom!!"

Still need to recenter the wreath obviously.
 I love lamp.

 Husband's chair.

That chase breathes life into my soul.

Our house is becoming a home.
