Styling the Bump: Third Trimester

As my pregnancy progresses, I definitely have fewer options and a version of the one I'm wearing here has gotten me through. It's amazing how much bigger my bump has gotten this pregnancy than with my first but I've learned how to dress without spending too much money.

Aside from pants, I can get away with buying tops and dresses one or two sizes bigger. However, because I'm tall I still have to be a bit choosey as some things, though they fit, aren't long enough. Asos, Old Navy and Target have been my favorite, inexpensive retailers to find clothes. They still have plenty of on-trend options but they won't make you go broke in a day.

My style has simplified the further along I get in my pregnancy. Having neutrals and basic pieces that can be styled in various ways helps me to grab something quickly in the morning (especially for work) and not feel like I'm wearing the same thing every day.

Things to shop for:

Stripes
Stripes are a neutral in my opinion and that's the name of the game! They're flattering and classic and depending on your style the options are endless.

Basic tops

The foundation to any outfit. I usually pick my top first and having several basic tops is crucial. I can style one top into five different outfits which is essential!

Skinny Jeans (I have a distressed pair and non-distressed pair that is perfect for casual Friday at work)
They are so versatile which is really what you want during pregnancy. Find the fit and style that work best for you, whether you want distressed or not, full panel or side panel, etc.

Typically I'm not a fan of tight dresses and prefer a looser fit but pregnancy makes an exception. At a time when you're already feeling large, it's nice to really emphasize your curves and your belly.

Valentine's Day Outfit Idea

Happy Monday to you and yours! Can you believe Valentine's Day is right around the corner? I walked into Target right after Christmas and low and behold, there were hearts, red lips and pink and red everything. Crazy how fast things turn around.

Since mine and husband's birthday fall two and three days after Valentine's Day (I'm one day older), I tend to be a bit biased towards the romantic holiday. We typically celebrate our birthdays rather than the actual day itself because the crowds seems to thin out a few days later. While I'm not a girly girl, I do enjoy wearing a pop of red or pink and a lace number every now and again. I wore this outfit to work last week and love the endless options a basic LBD can have. I took a more conservative approach but throw on some sexy heels and some faux fur and the outfit carries a completely different vibe. Or maybe some strappy heels, a statement necklace and bold lip. Countless options depending on your style!

2017 New Year's Goals

1. Be gentle with myself to lose the baby weight. Feel proud of my body and celebrate that it has given me two sweet boys.

2. Be present. Enjoy the moment. Stop looking to the future and planning the next move. Take advantage of each day and consider each to be a new opportunity.

3. Be bold. Ask for things. Take risks. Share feelings. Stop letting fear and inadequacies overshadow my abilities.

4. Have more fun! Take the day off, order another margarita, dance often, try on extravagant outfits for no particular reason, have a Liam day where he chooses all the activities we do, order room service. There are one thousand and one ways that 2017 can be full of joy.

Buffalo Check Coat

I have had this coat a shockingly long time. Husband bought it for be seven years ago? Eight? Every winter it quickly comes to the front of the coat section in my closet. I'm obsessed with the buffalo check and love that despite its age, it's still so on trend. It's a bit oversized (though with a bump, not so much) and is great to layer over bulky sweaters. Thankfully the weather has finally cooled (some might even say it's cold here but pregnancy problems) so I was able to pull it out and wear it this week.

Work Uniform

This is my work uniform: my favorite slacks, button-up, and comfy pointed flats. If you work the 9-5, you know the struggle to find chic work outfits that don't fit into the frumpy category. I have about 45 minutes to get myself and a three year old ready and out the door. It doesn't leave much time, but I know what works for me, and I stick to it. Like I mentioned in this post about creating a versatile wardrobe, create your closet built around classic staples and you can mix and match with a multitude of options with no thought.

For me, the struggle is real when it comes to finding long pants and if I do they're still usually never long enough to wear with heels so I stick to anything cropped. From there I can go a million directions but it helps to have a starting point. They're my absolute favorite type of pant so I've collected quite a few (like this Old Navy pair) in my closet.

I can pick the overall look I'm going for depending on the shoe I wear. Do I want a classic pump with a muscle tee for a boyish vibe? Maybe a pointed flat with a button up or a stappy sandal with a flowy top. Whichever shoe I reach for determines the overall tone of my look.

I stick to the same minimal jewelry every day (my favorite Stella & Dot necklace and this honeycomb necklace) so I'm accessorized but not overdoing it.

Mini Series: Denim Daze // The White Denim

White denim may be my favorite kind of denim. It has the same versatility of blue jeans but with a fresher feel. Summer, fall, winter, spring--white denim does not discriminate. Wear with a little white tank, light scarf and some strappy sandals and you've just thrown on the easiest summer outfit. Throw on a plaid shirt and some sweet booties (like these!) and you're #basic for fall. Winter whites are so beautiful so I love wearing heavy cream sweaters with white jeans. For spring, a chambray top and some nude heels and you've got a classic look that will never go out of style. Boom. I've just styled your white denim for year 'round. 

See how easy that is? Tis is why I love them so.

Some things to consider. Find a heavier denim because white denim is often see-through. Not cute. It's also crucial to find a pair that fits well since white tends to show everything. And nobody wants to see how I over-indulged in chips and queso last night.
